BMAA JUNIOR COACHING PROGRAM

Postby pikeman » Sun Mar 06, 2011 9:25 am

BMAA JUNIOR COACHING PROGRAM.

The Bmaa is in the process of begining a new junior coaching program. The objective will be to encourage youngsters into our beloved sport and to help and encourage those already hooked. Once we are in operation our team will be there to offer help, guidance and support through workshops and fish-ins. We are working in conjunction with the Angling Development Board (ADB). The ADB's West Midlands representative Richard Hadley will be assisting us in Health And Safety, CRB checks, training and registering our coaches and general guidance through all the other necessary legalities associated with youth orientated activities.

The BMAA is currently working towards the attainment of "Clubmark". This is a Nationally recognised standard with many benefits for the club. It will let any body, for example schools and councils, who wish to approach us with a view to training young people know that we fulfil certain criteria. We are hoping to attain Clubmark later this year. We are already being approached by schools who are showing a keen interest in angling coaching sessions for their pupils.

We have an eight session training program starting on the 23rd March 2011 at The Mosley School, Anslow. This will consist of up to fifteen key stage two children (seven to eleven year olds) from the school, being coached partly in the classroom also with practical sessions by the water. This will be conducted as an after school club. We are hoping to become involved with other local schools as the scheme progresses.

At the present time we are seeking helpers. If you can spare a little time occasionally please get in touch. Regular helpers will need to be CRB checked . This is a simple process, it involves filling in a straightforward form. We will help you through it. In return for giving a small amount of your valuable time you will recieve a feeling that you have done something worthwhile and will have a lot of fun!

In time we will be training successful helpers to level 1 coaching standard. This is an advanced helper level and a stepping stone to level 2. Licenced level 2 coaches carry insurance, are trained in child support, first aid, health and safety and are responsible for carrying out risk assessments to ensure everyone concerned enjoys themselves in a safe environment.

Our coaching will consist of -

workshops - learning to set up tackle and rigs, knot tying, casting, fish recognition, baits etc.

Fish ins - assisted fishing time by the water. Ratio maximum four juniors to one adult. In practice many juniors will need one to one tuition.

We have three dates already booked for 2011. Saturday 21st May. Saturday 18th June. Saturday 10th September. Kingstanding pools will be closed from 9am to 5pm on these days for the purpose of encouraging juniors. Stafford Youth Anglers will be there with some of their coaches and junior anglers. All juniors will be welcome for any or all of these days whether members of BMAA or not. Come for the whole day or part of the day. You must be accompanied by a responsible adult, We only ask that you book in advance to enable us to keep a check on numbers. This will be an excellent opportiunity for total beginners and more experienced alike.
